Culture Metropolis Ruhr as Standing Order! RUHR.2010 handed over the baton

Die RUHR.2010 GmbH gab am 5.12.2011 ihr Erbe in neue Hände: Der Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR), die Kultur Ruhr GmbH, die Ruhr Tourismus GmbH und das European Center for Creative Economy (ECCE) starten mit neuen Aufgaben durch und fördern in Zukunft die nachhaltige Entwicklung von Netzwerken und Projekten, die im Jahr der Kulturhauptstadt Europas RUHR.2010 auf den Weg gebracht wurden.

Die Kultur Ruhr GmbH wird um die eigenständige Programmsäule „Künste im urbanen Raum“ erweitert. Wesentliches Ziel ist, die Zusammenarbeit bestehender Kultureinrichtungen zu unterstützen und so über die Region hinaus strahlende Exzellenzprojekte zu initiieren und zu fördern.

Die Ruhr Tourismus GmbH wird künftig nicht nur die touristische Vermarktung der „Kulturmarke Ruhr“ weiter fortführen, sondern ist zusätzlich für die Organisation und Durchführung identitätsstiftender Großveranstaltungen verantwortlich.

Die Förderung der Kreativwirtschaft ist weiterhin durch das European Center for Creative Economy gesichert. ECCE arbeitet dabei in enger Kooperation mit der wirtschafts­förderung metropoleruhr GmbH (wmr).

Der Regionalverband Ruhr koordiniert mit einer neuen Stabstelle künftig die Entwicklung der Kultur in der Metropole Ruhr. Darüber hinaus veranstalten das Land NRW und der RVR ab 2012 jährlich eine programmatische „Kulturkonferenz Ruhr“ zu jeweils aktuellen Fragen der regionalen Kulturpolitik.

„Das Ruhrgebiet wird national und international immer attraktiver. Des­halb darf das Kulturhauptstadtjahr kein Strohfeuer sein. Als Landes­regierung setzen wir uns deshalb dafür ein, den positiven Wandel des Ruhrgebiets weiter zu unterstützen und voranzubringen. Wir wollen, dass die international so erfolgreiche Kultur-Metropole Ruhr dauerhaft attraktiv bleibt", erklärte Kulturministerin Ute Schäfer.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Scheytt, Geschäftsführer der RUHR.2010 GmbH, zeigt sich erfreut: „Die Nachhaltigkeit der Kulturhauptstadt war für uns immer ein prioritäres Ziel. Umso mehr freuen wir uns, dass wir unser Erbe nun in die Hände langjähriger, kompetenter Partner der Metropole Ruhr übergeben können. Was wir mit RUHR.2010 geschaffen haben, ist auch für andere Städte in Europa wegweisend. Eine der wichtigsten Wirkungen ist, dass sich die Menschen aufgrund ihrer Erlebnisse mit der Kulturhauptstadt noch stärker mit der Metropole Ruhr identifizieren. Gemeinsam haben die Ruhris Großartiges geschafft.“

An dem moderierten Gespräch zu den nachhaltigen Strukturen und geplanten Netzwerken der Metropole Ruhr nahmen teil: Dr. h.c. Fritz Pleitgen und Prof. Oliver Scheytt (Geschäftsführer RUHR.2010 GmbH), Prof. Heiner Goebbels (Intendant Ruhrtriennale), Axel Biermann (Geschäftsführer Ruhr Tourismus GmbH), Thomas Westphal (Geschäftsführer wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr GmbH), Prof. Dieter Gorny (Geschäftsführer ECCE) sowie Karola Geiß-Netthöfel (Regionaldirektorin RVR).

RUHR.2010 entrusted her legacy into new hands on the 5th of December 2011: Reginalverband Ruhr – RVR (Regional Association Ruhr), Kultur Ruhr GmbH (Culture Ruhr Ltd.), Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (Ruhr Tourism Ltd.) and the European Centre for Creative Economy (ECCE) started with their respective tasks and have since been supporting sustainable developments in networks and projects, which had been initiated and launched during the European Capital of Culture year.

Kultur Ruhr GmbH was enriched by an additional program pillar “Arts in Urban Spaces”. The essential objective has been to support the co-operation of existing cultural venues and thus initiation and support of excellent projects that reach out far beyond the region.

Ruhr Tourism GmbH continues marketing the “Culture Brand Ruhr” and at the same time it has been responsible for organizing and implementing big events that bring out and create identity.

The support of the creative economy is safeguarded by the European Centre for Creative Economy. ECCE has been working very closely with wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr GmbH (wmr) (economic development promotion ruhr ltd).

The Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) has coordinated the development of culture in the Metropolis Ruhr with a dedicated administrative department. Furthermore, as of 2012, the State of North-Rhine Westphalia and the RVR will organize an annual “Culture Conference´Ruhr”, which will focus on current issues of the regional culture policy.

“The Ruhr region becomes more attractive, nationally and internationally. Therefore, the European Capital of Culture year should not be a flash in the pan. As the state government, we continue to advocate supporting and promoting the positive changes in the Ruhr region. We want that the internationally successful Culture Metropolis Ruhr remains permanently attractive” stipulated the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Ute Schäfer.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Scheytt, managing director of RUHR.2010 GmbH was delighted: “For us, the sustainability of the Capital of Culture has always been a priority objective. We are pleased to pass our legacy to the long-time competent partner of the Metropolis Ruhr. Our achievements with RUHR.2010 are pioneering works for other cities in Europe. One of the most important effects was that people, due to their experiencing the Capital of Culture, identified themselves far stronger with the Metropolis Ruhr. Together, the “Ruhris” achieved a great accomplishment.”
