The national narrative can be altered when looking at what archaeological findings exist in Ioannina. In reference to Foucault's concept of 'archaeology of knowledge', what took place place in the area of Epirus is of great interest because there the 'polis' or city state was the rule, but a certain type of nation. Given this finding or historical evidence, it might offer some clues for a problem the European Union is currently struggling with, namely how to give shape to a European narrative when the national ones not only seem to dominate, but diverge so greatly and therefore making the political dialogue between the different member states ever more difficult?
