The intention of the municipality to highlight Ioannina to become European Capital of Culture for 2021 has been announced by the Culture Minister, Costas Tasoula. He made that statement after consultation with the Mayor. The Minister agrees that the city can meet all the conditions for such a claim.

Meanwhile, the mayor made known that there had been contact as well with the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias who agreed to be a staunch supporter of this effort.

Note: both the Minister and the President stem from Ioannina

One response to the announcement that Ioannina seeks the title for 2021 is most telling. The response underlines as well that some crucial details do matter when citizens judge in terms of real measures what benefit such a decision entails.

Some details indicate best if the city has made progress since the original announcement in Oct. 2014 and kept ever since what it promises to do. That is not self understood.

It should be noted that after Athens 1985, Thessaloniki 1997 and Patras 2006, the next Greek city to be designated the title of European Capital of Culture has to prove that success does not mean corruption and political intervention from the central goverment. Rather every municipality entering the competition for the title has to be true to itself and at the same forthcoming towrds the other cities bidding for the title. In some cases, those cities which did not receive the title, form a new national network and create a National title for Cultural Capital, so that some projects meant to be realised if the city had received the title can nevertheless be implemented.

Only time will tell if Ioannina shall make a true commitment and in reference to the original bid stay on course. The bid has to be ready by Oct. 23 2015 when the first pre-selection shall take place in Athens

In response to the headline: Ioannina 2014 - Ioannina 2021 one measure is made already explicit by what can be perceived as needed

                                                                     Innovative applications

if Ioannina is to progress from 2014 to 2021!

So the observation is well taken by epiloges magazine (evaluators take note: this is a visual measure) when showing a photo of a bus stop under present conditions and what can be taken as an imagined futurist image of a brand new bus stop:

The initial text (in Greek) says: "Since the city is facing a design project (sic: Google translation) certainly after a few years we will see our recommendations implemented (... we would like to believe)!"
