Energy plan as vision
The aim of Volos is to link bid for the ECoC title with its energy plan (outcome of planning happening every three years), so that a larger scale of cooperation between cities and their respective mayors can be strived for. The intention is to leave behind the controversies created by the outcome of the Municipal election in May 25, 2014.

Two important issues, which included the areas of culture and the environment of the Volos Municipal Authority puts the top development priorities of the city, will be discussed at the next meeting of the City Council Volos, scheduled for Friday. Energy planning
In discussing the Sustainable Energy Action Plan, the Mayor reiterated that the present Municipal Authority has adopted the strategy of integrated environmental management and based on this strategy, plans integrated intervention within an interactive Sustainability Plan, focused in the areas of sustainable energy, energy efficient infrastructure and alternative forms of transport, improving the quality of life of citizens and seeking to become thereby Volos center model of urban development.
Noted that the Municipality of Volos has already signed the Covenant of Mayors, an important European movement involving local and regional authorities, who voluntarily commit to take initiatives in local communities in order to increase energy efficiency and the use of Renewable Energy Sources in sites, which will reduce the release of pollutants responsible for the greenhouse effect. By their commitment, Covenant signatories are intended to achieve and exceed the EU target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020.
It therefore constitutes a clear vision, steady and firm commitments for action in specific areas - areas of action described in detail in the Action Plan on Sustainable Energy for each TAB.
The Municipality of Volos joined the Covenant of Mayors on 11/02/2013, the obligation to prepare and submit its own Action Plan within one year. The Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP), prepared by the climb, described the recording of energy data of the municipality and the major sources of emissions of CO2, using as reference year 2007 (carbon footprint of the City), and the specific objectives and concrete measures to reduce emissions equivalent CO2kata 20% compared with 2007.
It provides specific measures and actions to reduce energy consumption in the residential and tertiary sector, vehicles and transport, municipal buildings and public lighting, "green" procurement operations at the premises of DEYAMV, installing renewable energy systems within the limits of the municipality, management municipal waste, and the active participation of the citizens of the municipality.
